I was using two setups, both with two-hook bottom rigs. I caught 6 of the 8 keeper croakers on the green/red bloodworm, and 2 of the keeper croakers and the 2 throwback flounder on orange shrimp. However, I was the only person that caught any flounder, and by far, the most keeper sized croakers (ranging from 3/4 lb to 1 1/2 lb). I did not catch any of the taylor blues or speckled trout (most of which were keeper sized, but season is closed), of which I saw about 15 of each caught. I also caught approx 10 throwback croakers. I also caught two small throwback flounder, right around 12 inches each. I ended up with 8 keeper croakers, the largest was 1.5 lbs. I figured since fishing reports were consistently showing all kinds of fish being caught at the Little Bridge over the past few days, along with nothing but bluefish on the piers and surf, this would be the perfect time to try Fishbites.

With the exception of about 30 minutes of jigging with a white bucktail and Gulp setup when I first arrived(of which I had no hits), I fished strictly using Fishbites.

I spent 10 hours there, experimenting with Fishbites, the synthetic baits, which I had never used before. Mostly Spot and the like, but if fish are there and hungry, they sure seem to like it.I spent the day yesterday fishing the Little Bridge (Melvin Daniels causeway) in Nags Head. In the fall I set up 2 berkley boxes that fit in the front of my vest or jacket depending on the weather and i am good to go.Īlexy I've had good luck with FishBites bloodworm while surf fishing. I have to say I am a real minimalist when I am surf fishing and can get by with a little waist "fanny pack" with all the tackle I will need. Since the Op is looking to carry less you can take a bag or 2 out with you and stuff it in your pocket and be set for a while. The difference with mullet was no difference using blood worms vs real and we had some very good flounder bites on bucktails with a strip of the clam as a teaser but with so much depending on how you work the bucktail i don't know if I could say it made a difference or not. We always caught more pomps with the fishbites than we did with real sand fleas. We used same rods same line and the same Joe Moore floro rigs and cast near each other. My son and I put them to the test for the last 3 years with the sand flea.
